Overview

Four Grades, One Material: The Pure Nickel Family

These are purity designations, not alloy grades: pure nickel carries no deliberate alloy additions, which is why the shorthand "200" and "201" should be written as Ni200 and Ni201 to avoid confusion with alloy numbering systems. Technical Details

How the FCC Lattice Shapes Wire Behaviour

Nickel crystallizes in a face-centered cubic (FCC) lattice, and the structure sets the wire's shop-floor behaviour: multiple slip systems allow uniform plastic deformation, so the wire bends, coils and forms without cracking, and weld joints stay consistent along the spool. The FCC lattice is also the basis of the ferromagnetic response that matters in motors, transformers and magnetic sensors — nickel is ferromagnetic up to its Curie point of 358°C.

Corrosion in Service: Media, Temperature and Grade

Pure nickel resists corrosion in reducing media, alkalis and many organic environments, and holds up to oxidation in moderate-temperature service — the combination that puts it in chemical processing equipment, aerospace components and battery assemblies. Resistance is inherent to the metal rather than to a surface treatment, so cut ends and weld zones keep the same profile as the as-drawn surface. Four Grades, One Wire: Ni200 vs Ni201 vs N4 vs N6

All four grades sit in the pure nickel series, and each is selected against the service media and price target. N4 (≥99.9% Ni+Co) serves the most demanding purity and research duties; N6 (≥99.5%) covers general industrial use; Ni201 (≥99.0%, C ≤0.02%) suits low-carbon, welding-sensitive applications; Ni200 (≥99.2%, C ≤0.15%) is the standard mechanical and electrical grade. Because purity, carbon limit and price move together, the grade is chosen against the application — not by habit.

Standards and Documentation for India Imports

Wire is supplied to ASTM B164 for Ni200/Ni201 and to GB/T 21653 for N4/N6, with export documentation per EN 10204 3.1 — the inspection document commonly requested for nickel imports into India.
